[UNOFFICIAL] RiiConnect24 and Wiimmfi Installation Guide! (Windows)

[UNOFFICIAL] RiiConnect24 and Wiimmfi Installation Guide! (Windows)

Welcome to the UNOFFICIAL RiiConnect24 and Wiimmfi Installation Guide! This guide only uses applications for Windows users.

I've created an unofficial installation guide for RiiConnect24 and Wiimmfi. Please bear in mind that this unofficial so by no means does this have to be exceptionally professional, so please try to ignore the shoddy camera work done on the majority of the screenshots in this guide, I could only use Dolphin for a few of these screenshots here as Dolphin does not support launching homebrew software so I had to use Office Lens on a 4K phone camera but I was still unable to get the best quality, so I apologise in advance.

This guide will help you install the following:
      • The Homebrew Channel
      • BootMii
      • RiiConnect24
      • Wiimmfi
Hopefully, this guide will provide better guidance for a lot of the people out there didn't understand some of the very few guides online, like myself. If the guide doesn't help and/or needs work, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll make changes for it to be more understandable.

Step 1. *If you already have The Homebrew Channel installed on your Nintendo Wii, please skip to step 12.

Turn the console on and navigate to Wii Options. A menu will pop-up containing two items: Data Management and Wii Settings. Select Wii Settings and you should appear in the "Wii System Settings" menu. At the top right corner of the screen, there should be a number, identifying what firmware your Nintendo Wii is running on. Make sure you remember what firmware you are running on before you proceed because the LetterBomb exploit only works on Ver. 4.3. The letter after the version number identifies what region your Nintendo Wii is from.

Here are the different region letters:
      • U - United States
      • E - Europe
      • J - Japan
      • K - Korea

Step 2. When you have your version number and verified that you are running Ver. 4.3, please skip to step 3. If you are not running Ver. 4.3, press the + button on your Wiimote until you reach page 3 where you will find "Wii System Update." If you have already installed The Homebrew Channel on an older version of the firmware, again please do NOT do this and skip to step 12. Make sure your Nintendo Wii is connected to the Internet and you will be ready to proceed with the update.

*Please note that the Nintendo Wii Mini will not work with RiiConnect24 and Wiimmfi because it does not have Internet connectivity.

Step 3. Press the + button on your Wiimote until you reach page 2 where you will find "Internet." Select "Internet" and then select "Console Information." Write down your MAC Address and once you've written it down, you can back out into the Wii Menu.

Step 4. If you have an SD Card in your Nintendo Wii, please take the SD Card out and backup the files that are stored in it so we can proceed with using it. When you have backed up your data (or not, if the SD Card hasn't been used before), right-click the SD Card in Windows File Explorer and click "Format..." Click "Restore device defaults" and under the "File system" tab, select FAT32. Untick the box labelled "Quick Format" and click the Start button.

Step 5. After the format is complete, go to the following URL in your Internet browser:

When entering this URL, click on one of the buttons at the top of the page under "System Menu Version" and select the one that matches your region letter. Enter your full MAC Address in the small boxes below and make sure the box is ticked asking if you want the HackMii Installer bundled. Click the button labelled "I'm not a robot" and then click "Cut the red wire."

Once the file has downloaded, you will need to extract the archive's contents using either 7zip or WINRAR, personal preference. Click and drag them out of the archive and put them into the SD Card.

Step 6. After the extraction is complete, right-click the SD Card in Windows File Explorer and click Eject. Now you can now remove the SD Card from your computer and put it back into the Wii console. Press the Reset button on the console (if necessary) and select the Mail icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. If nothing shows up, press the + button or the - button on your Wiimote to go back and forth a few days and you should be able to find a red letter with an image of a bomb inside it.

Simply, select this letter and your console will execute the code needed to prepare your Wii console for homebrew installation. Please give it time, it will hang on a black screen with text for about a minute before moving on to the next screen.

Step 7. A disclaimer message will pop-up for about 15 seconds letting you know that any purchasing of the LetterBomb exploit is a scam and you should probably get your money back. Please wait until an option appears letting you know when to press the 1 button on your Wiimote to continue. (This process can take some time).

Step 8. When everything has loaded correctly after hitting the 1 button, a screen should pop-up like the one shown below. The controls in the following menus are only the Directional Pad and the A button on your Wiimote. Select the Continue button to proceed and in the Main menu, you are given the option to install The Homebrew Channel, select this option and select "Yes, continue" to proceed.

Step 9. After the installation is complete, select Continue and use the Directional Pad to select "BootMii..."

In the BootMii menu, select the option saying "Install BootMii as IOS" and select "Yes, continue" to proceed installing the runtime files. After installing the runtime files required for BootMii, you can select "Yes, continue" to finish the installation.

Step 10. After the installation is complete, select Continue and select Exit. You should be booted back into the Wii Menu and The Homebrew Channel will now be installed.

Step 11. Remove the SD Card from your Nintendo Wii and insert it into your computer and delete all unnecessary files off of it. I recommend keeping the folder named "bootmii" in the root of the SD Card.

Step 12. We are now going to install RiiConnect24! Unfortunately, the instructions that RiiConnect24 provided on their website were not very clear to me so I'll provide steps in better detail on how to do it. If you do not want to have the old Wii channels back fully functional with WiiConnect24, you can skip this step if you would like to. If you do want to skip this step, go to step 13!

Step A. Click on the following link to download IOS Patcher: The latest version of IOS Patcher. Once downloaded, extract the files and click on patcher.bat. This will download the IOS files you need (IOS31 and IOS80) and you will be able to use these to patch your Nintendo Wii

Step B. The patcher.bat file will direct you through a small download process, requesting your language and asking if you want the IOS files to be put on an SD Card. When you go through this process, if you selected yes for the IOS files to be put on an SD Card, you should find a "WAD" folder in your SD Card.

After doing this step, click on the following link to download WiiXplorer: WiiXplorer. Once downloaded, open the WiiXplorer archive and extract it into a new folder on your SD Card. You need to rename this folder to "apps" so that The Homebrew Channel will recognise it. You can now eject the SD Card from your computer via Windows File Explorer.

Step C. Insert the SD Card back into the Nintendo Wii and launch The Homebrew Channel. A new application called WiiXplorer will pop-up. Select it and then select Load. When the application loads, you should automatically be in the folder called "wc24." If not, in the top left corner of the window, there is a little icon, it may either be an SD Card symbol, a computer chip (NAND) symbol or a DVD (Disc) symbol. Select the icon and choose the option called "nand." You will now be in the root folder of the console's flash memory. Select the folder labelled "shared2" and then select the folder labelled "wc24" and you will be in the directory where you need to be.

Step D. Locate the file labelled as "nwc24msg.cfg" and hover over it with the pointer. Once hovering over it, press the + button on your Wiimote and select Copy. Select Yes and then click on the logo at the top left corner again but rather than selecting "nand," you need to select "sd" instead and you will be in the root of the SD Card again. Hover your pointer over the blank space in the window and press the + button on your Wiimote and select Paste and select Yes to confirm.

Step E. Once copied, select the Start button at the bottom left of the screen and select Exit, then again, select Yes to confirm. When you're back in The Homebrew Channel, press the HOME button on your Wiimote and select Exit to System Menu. You can now eject your SD Card from your Nintendo Wii and insert it into your computer again.

Step F. Click on the following link to download the patcher: nwc24msg.cfg patcher. Extract the file onto your desktop and you should have an executable file called "mail.exe." Goto your SD Card in Windows File Explorer and click and drag the nwc24msg.cfg file into the "mail.exe" file. Your WiiConnect24 file will now be patched.

Step G. Click on the following link to download WiiMod Lite: The latest version of WiiMod Lite. Once downloaded, extract the archive into the root of your SD Card and eject your SD Card via Windows File Explorer. You can now eject the SD Card from your computer via Windows File Explorer.

Step H. Insert the SD Card back into the Nintendo Wii and open The Homebrew Channel again and load up WiiXplorer. Once loaded, select the Start button and select Settings. In the Settings menu, select Boot Settings and in there, set NAND write access to ON and confirm Yes to all of the warning messages.

Step I. In the root of your SD Card, hover over the nwc24msg.cfg file and press the + button on your Wiimote. Same procedure as last time but instead, you're going to copy this file back into the wc24 folder and overwrite the file. After overwritten, select the Start button and select Exit.

Step J. Select the application labelled "WiiMod Lite" and load it up. You will see a black screen with some text, ignore the rest but use the Directional Pad to navigate to the menu item labelled as "WAD Manager." It will ask you what source device you want to select.

It should automatically choose "Wii SD Slot", but if not, navigate using the left and right buttons on the Directional Pad and you should find it. Use the A button to select the option. Navigate to the folder that was made earlier from IOS Patcher called "WAD" and open it. You can now press the 1 button on your Wiimote to install all of the WAD files in the folder and then press the A button to confirm the installation.

Step K. Once installed, press the HOME button on your Wiimote to exit WiiMod Lite. Once you're back in The Homebrew Launcher, press the HOME button again and select Exit to System Menu.

Step L. You're now finished modifying the Nintendo Wii's files for RiiConnect24! All you have to do now is navigate to Wii Options at the bottom left corner of the screen, select Wii Settings, press the + button on your Wiimote to navigate to page 2 in Wii System Settings and select Internet.

Step M. Select Connection Settings, then select Connection 1 (or 2 and/or 3 depending on which connection you chose to select previously) and select Change settings. Press the + button on your Wiimote to navigate a few pages until you reach "Auto-Obtain DNS." Select No and then select Advanced Settings.

Step N. You will need to type the following numbers in order to connect to the RiiConnect24 services.

      • For Primary DNS, type the following numbers: 185.82.21.64.
      • For Secondary DNS, type the following numbers: 8.8.8.8.

Once entered, select Confirm and then select Save. Your console will now perform a connection test so select the OK button. Once the connection test has finished, it will ask you if you would like to perform a System Update. Select No because it will overwrite what we just did. Select the Back button until you reach Wii System Settings again.

Step O. Select WiiConnect24 and then once again, select WiiConnect24. Set the option to be On and select Confirm. Select Standby Connection and set the option to be On and select Confirm. Select Slot Illumination and set it to your personal preference and then select Confirm. Now select the Back button until you reach Wii System Settings again.

Step P. Select Internet and then select Agreement/Contact and select Yes for when it asks if you would like to use the Wii Shop Channel and WiiConnect24 (RiiConnect24). Then select Next, and then select I ACCEPT for the licence agreement and then select the OK button.

Congratulations! You now have access to RiiConnect24!

Step 13. Now that you have RiiConnect24 installed (or not if you skipped that step), you can access a number of channels that were shutdown after the Nintendo WFC discontinuation. But you still will not be able to access Nintendo WFC online multiplayer yet. For that, you will need Wiimmfi. This is very simple to install and only requires a few steps!

Step 14. Eject the SD Card from your Nintendo Wii and insert it into your computer.

Step 15. Click on the following link to download Wiimmfi Patcher: Wiimmfi Patcher. Once downloaded, extract the files into your SD Card and you're done! You can now eject the SD Card from your computer via Windows File Explorer.

Step 16. Insert the SD Card into your console and select The Homebrew Channel. Once it's finished loading, insert a Wiimmfi compatible game disc and select Wiimmfi Patcher and load it up! It may take about 15 seconds to load the game but if you want to play online from now on, you need to launch the game from The Homebrew Channel.

Congratulations! You now have access to Wiimmfi!
