I'm not quite sure. It could be possible that the Mario Kart Channel also resets the patch done by the homebrew app.
You could do so, but after you checked, better run the patcher again to make sure the URLs are still patched (and check the output of the patcher whether it patched again or not).
I would recommend using an USB Loader and the patched image.
But anyways, what I can tell you is that your wii hasn't downloaded the competition yet. PokeAcer fixed the DNS server this afternoon (which you are probably using?) and after that fix, the first download request from your wii at 4:20 pm CET only created an entry in my log files. The next download request - probably at about 10:20 pm CET as the competitions are requested every 6 hours - should download the competition if I haven't made another mistake with the files on my server.
