You mean... a license?!
Angepinnt MKWii - Competitions!
-
-
@PokeAcer why?
As long as I don't publish any licence that grants people more rights, I still have the copyright on my software even without telling people that I have it.DevkitPro Archiv (alte Versionen / old versions): wii.leseratte10.de/devkitPro/

@Leseratte I'm just saying -
@PokemonAcer
Well... licence, copyright and ownership are three different things. If he decides not to license its project it will fall under the public domain but he'll still have the ownership. In that case, the copyright is a bit useless. Plus the copyright doesn't last eternally in time, where the ownership remains.
Personally, I license my open source projects for this only reason: if they fall under the public domain someone can improve them and put them in another domain, for instance private or commercial where as they're originally open source. Using an appropriate open source licence will highly encourage that person to distribute its improved version with the same or a supported licence. Then, the copyright really makes sense. Indeed, if someone wants to change the licence of such a project, that person must ask everyone who contributed to the project i.e. the ones who added that copyright notice.
To be honest, I don't care that much because copyright isn't used/accepted in some countries and can't be used in judicial affair there. It might change in the future, though.
@Leseratte
Do you plan to release the source code? If so, will you use platform such as github or similar hosting websites? -
@Sepalani yes, I will probably release the source code in the future. But first I want to re-write some parts of the code and add a few comments (the code really has too few comments and it already has ~1300 lines of code in 2 files (one class and the main program).

What about to launch test competition with RiiConnect24?
-
MKWii competitions have nothing to do with RiiConnect24. The Wii uses the WC24 download engine to download the competition and its announcement letter, but those are being downloaded from my server (now) / from the Wiimmfi server (in the future) and not from the RiiConnect24 server.
There have been enough competition tests in the past, the next steps are now writing the software which creates the file itself (so I don't need to hex edit them), and, obviously, collecting all the older competitions - I don't really want to release competitions to everyone while there are still some competitions missing, because once you'll download a Wiimmfi competition, the old one that your Wii might still have is lost. Maybe I ask Ciapa / Xidus (the one who made the competition patcher) to implement a feature that uploads the old file to my server and only patches if that upload was successful. MrBean already said he could add such an uploader to CTGP, so everyone who starts CTGP would automatically upload his file once, but this will probably take time until the ghost stuff in CTGP is done.
@Xidus would that be possible?DevkitPro Archiv (alte Versionen / old versions): wii.leseratte10.de/devkitPro/

Hum, my current schedule is quite busy, typical 3DS stuff, working on two other projects and so on. But if I can find the src of it again, I can either give it to you or do it on my own. So it should be totally possible, in fact it should only be some libcurl calls. @Leseratte14.932 bytes pure destruction.

I have now found a way to patch the WC24 file so that the original, unpatched game will not overwrite the competition patch again. Even actively disabling the message service in the unpatched game will only delete the message download patch (the announcement letter in the wii menu), but will still leave the competition download patch as it is.
The patch will then be permanent no matter what you do (well, technically, it will get deleted after 8,192 days (more than 22 years) but lets just assume it is permanent )
However I'm currently applying the patch with the Nintendo NWC24 Editor, and the patch is a little bit more complicated than simply replacing "nintendowifi.net" with "wiimmfi.de".
Xidus (who made the first patcher) is busy as you see in his post above this one, so I'm now looking for another developer who is able to develop a wii homebrew application to patch the WC24 file according to my patch instructions ...
EDIT: @amibu has started to write a patcher. Thanks!DevkitPro Archiv (alte Versionen / old versions): wii.leseratte10.de/devkitPro/

Assuming that the competition files have been lost forever, we will be able to recreate them exactly as they were?
-
-
Yes?
Well, with a lot of work we might be able to create competition files which are like the ones we don't have. But not exactly.DevkitPro Archiv (alte Versionen / old versions): wii.leseratte10.de/devkitPro/

But we'll have competitions on Wiimmfi even if you haven't found all the competitions?
-
-
I just ran a quick search of the file you're looking for on my SD card and found it. I remember backing up my save file a very very long time ago now, and it was the one I used ever since I got the game so there should be plenty of competitions on it. That is, unless it's not the same file... In which case I apologise.
I seem to remember a very long time ago people started creating custom competitions. Would it be possible to make some special ones when it eventually becomes possible to distribute them? The Nintendo-made ones are great and all, but it'd be so cool to get some made by the community to freshen it up a bit! -
Thanks for the file. It was the right one, though it did not contain one of the missing competitions.
Creating own competitions is possible, I wrote a tool for this purpose: wiki.tockdom.com/wiki/RKC_Editor
But unless MrBean and Chadderz implement that in CTGP, this will only allow you to create competitions on official tracks, not on custom tracks.DevkitPro Archiv (alte Versionen / old versions): wii.leseratte10.de/devkitPro/

Aw, that's too bad that it didn't contain one of the missing ones Worth a try anyway though. Did you ever compile a list of the missing files? Maybe it would help to publicise it a bit since people might remember playing them and extract their saves to preserve them.
I remember long ago when custom competitions were first being messed around with, someone told me that the file sent to the Wii was like an adapted mini-KMP of sorts, rather than a full .szs file, so the competitions had to take place on a normal track, battle arena, or the Mario Galaxy-inspired stage. So yeah, I knew that CT competitions wouldn't be possible in a native copy of MKWii. It'd still be great to see custom ones on the Nintendo-made stuff though -
A list of missing competitions is here: wiiki.wii-homebrew.com/Wiimmfi_(en)/Competitions

I want to help. In some sites of the internet, there's some nand backups that other persons has uploaded (i found 8). I will download them and see, with a bit of luck, if they have competitions. The structure is title/00010004/?

Yes, the file is in

. Oh, and try to set the region if possible (XX as Leseratte said will either be E,P,J or K in hex, and E=NTSC-U,P=PAL,J=NTSC-J, and K=NTSC-K) -
Amibu and me have finished a first test version of the competition patcher; although it does not patch anything yet, it only uploads the current competition to Wiimmfi.
This had to be implemented anyways to prevent people from overwriting their old (possibly missing) Nintendo competition with a new Wiimmfi one; and it can now be used to send a competition to the server directly from the Wii, without needing to extract the save game.
Here you can find it: competitions.wiimmfi.de
(If you've already send me your competition with the form in the first post, the form on PokeAcer's page, or per mail, or whatever, there is no need to run that homebrew again).DevkitPro Archiv (alte Versionen / old versions): wii.leseratte10.de/devkitPro/

So, with that patcher, the Wii will not download the competition if the old competition is not uploaded to the server?
-
That is the plan for the future. At the moment, it does not patch at all.
