The Ultimate Homebrew Guide is recommended here. It never got an english translation but the tools all have english text.

This guide already helped me in many situations! I think, you can understand everything although it is in German, because, as pistonfish says, the screenshots are in english and very expressive! Besides, there exists Google Translator....:D
