Replacing 'Nintendo WFC' with 'Wiimmfi'/'Wiimmfi WFC'

_Hi,
_{I've made this thread as IK the generic patcher will not change 'Nintendo WFC' to 'Wiimmfi'. However, I've decided that for the games I own, I'll try finding the 'Nintendo WFC'/'Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection' strings in the game files and attempt to patch. I'll put any success findings here along with instructions}

I was hoping this would be possible with WiiWare NWFC games, because you have all of the game's files when you extract the .app files from the WAD.

As for real game discs, maybe @MrBean35000vr could update his patcher to use the Wiimmfi graphics from CTGP on MKWii. And iirc @Horsti12 some time ago replaced NWFC with the wiimmfi logo in Brawl.

Imma do Dr. Mario and ACCF, no NinWFC logos for now. @Horsti12 would you be able to pm me how you changed nwfc logo w/ wiimmfi's in brawl?

Yes.

If anyone takes the time to make the proper changes, (Ideally) MrBean could update his autowiimmfi patcher to then apply the proper patched graphics/text strings.

A quick look into my main.dol, I cannot see anything but it may be encrypted (ACCF)
Anyone know how I could decrypt this? @Wiimm @Leseratte

This string is definitely not in the main.dol, but in any other data file (like the BMG files for mkwii).

Be careful when doing this kind of generic replacing because if there is any kind of integrity check (checksum for example) that does the game you'll be stuck unless you reverse it!

The string could be in a main.dol, in a text file (like BMG, BIN, DATA, etc. files) sometimes it isn't even a string but a texture. You'll have a lot on one plate if you planned to make all the games. But that's the safer way to do because a generic patcher can break working games if they check their integrity and/or if the patcher replaces strings that shouldn't be replaced (constants used by the game).

Changing game text is not easy. Example Mario Kart Wii PAL

In sub-dir ./Scene/UI you find 60 files of name: <stage>_<l>.szs
<stage> is on of 10 game stages and <l> is one of 6 language letters.

Each file is a compressed U8 archive. My SZS can patch all messages of all files directly by doing the following steps:

For each file:
* open file
* decompress
* search *.bmg sub files in U8 archive
* for each BMG file
** convert to tool-internal data structure
** patch
** create new BMG file
* re-arange U8 archive using the new BMG file
* compress
* store new SZS file.

You know a lot of games use different ways to load text? Mario Sports Mix has a dt_na.dat which includes all files were I dont know any way to extract any files from (its 700 MB big and includes most game data) and Trackmania Wii for example uses a .zip file which includes most game files and which is checked by a vfs.bin file to not include any changes.

Most games are different and you will probably only find out how to change the text in 5 games. And Bean has better things to do than to include such a thing into the patcher.

wszst patch *.szs --patch-bmg replace=NEW_STRINGS_FILE
NEW_STRINGS_FILE is a text file with lines like: MESSAGE_ID = NEW_TEXT
But it will likely not work for other games than MKWii.

I've replaced the nintendo wfc strings inside of Animal Crossing Wii - NTSC-U version (If anyone has the PAL version, please send me the BMG files :D) - This is only in English ATM.
Here's how you do it atm (Wiimm's BMG patcher does not work ATM with the ACCF BMG files)

Step 1. Copy a Wiimmfi-patched WBFS/ISO file to the directory of the wiimmfi patcher, and open terminal/cmd there (For CMD, right click while holding shift then release shift and press 'Open command prompt here')

Step 2. Type in this command (substitute wit for ./wit if using Mac/Linux):

wit extract RUUE01.wbfs ./ACW/ -vv

where RUUE01.wbfs is the WBFS of Animal Crossing Wii.

Step 3. Once complete, download the following BMG zip and extract into the ACW directory (don't worry, I preserved file structures so you don't have to find it all

Step 4. Once done, copy old WBFS/ISO just in case of any errors, and type this into the command prompt:

wit copy ./ACW/ RUUE01.wbfs -vv

Once this has done, move back to USB.

@pistonfish we all do, IIRC the files are MSBIN files, not PAC files, correct me if I'm wrong.
Plus, you could just do what I've done above and place the files into a dir-structure and use wit and a copying script

(BTW, I won't have to give the BMG files once Wiimm eventually fixes his tool to read the ACCF BMG files correctly)

Its more likely that he does not have to "fix" it, but add support for the older version ACCF is probably using if he cares/has time/whatever.

@Tock @Wiimm has to fix it because ACCF uses 20bytes whereas MKW used 8 iirc - it then cuts of 16 when it makes the BMG, which isn't good
